Honda NC700X DCT - One smooth transmission!

The 2012 NC700X DCT comes standard with ABS and a 6 speed Dual Clutch Gearbox.  The optional transmission uses two hydraulic clutches for smooth shifts, and works in three modes (seen here: ) "D" for every day use, "S" for sport, and "M" for manual, which operates via the "+" and "-" buttons on the right grip.  This transmission was first introduced on the 2010 Honda VFR1200F DCT but has seen a huge improvement in the smoothness of its operation.  Riding the 2 bikes back to back one notices that the transmissions shifts seemlessly on the NC700X DCT model.  We test rode our new unit predominantly in sport mode and found its shifts were just right for the aggressive rider.  Could this be the new transmission going into the 2013 Honda GoldWing?  Check back in November and find out!

 

2013 Honda Gold Wing Announcement

It is official, the colors for the 2013 Honda Gold Wing have been announced.  There are 3 new colors for the 2013 model year.  They are Gray Metallic, Light Silver Metallic and Candy Red.  The Light Silver Metallic and Candy Red are solid colors that do not have the two tone look of the 2012.  There is also a carryover color, Ultra Blue Metallic.  The announcement was made on Tuesday, September 4th through Honda's Online Dealer Network.  There are more future announcements coming from Honda on the touring segment in November so please check back to get the latest info and pics of the new colors.  We are looking at a December 2012 delivery at our dealership for the new 2013 Honda Gold Wing!

We took this picture at the 2012 Progressive International Motorcycle Show which was in Chicago over the weekend.  Reaction from the people at the show was incredible especially when they heard the price started at $6,999.  This bike is available to order today, with arrival slated for May/June.

2012 Honda Rancher Recall

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. has decided that a safety defect exists in the front right suspension on certain 2012 model year TRX420TE/TM (2WD) ATVs. A weld on the front right upper suspension arm on affected ATVs may fail due to insufficient weld penetration.  American Honda is sending a letter to owners of all affected 2012 TRX420TE/TM ATVs informing them that their vehicle is being recalled for a safety-related defect.  The customer will be advised to have a Honda ATV dealer replace the front right upper suspension arm. They will be instructed to call their dealer to make an appointment to have the Recall performed.  If you have any questions you can call us at (800)373-6565.  We have listed the affected VIN# ranges below:

Tire Pressure - How Important is it?

The tire pressure on your motorcycle is something a lot of riders may take for granted.  In our experience we have have heard claims of fluxuation in mileage from 25-48 mpg on the Honda Goldwing from our customers.  Often times when customers have brought their bike in for service and we notice their tire pressure to be off from the recommended pressure published in the Owner's manual.  It is usually the case that the customer has complained of poor mileage or uneven wear on their tires.  We always try to emphasize to the consumer that they should check their tire pressure each time prior to taking their bike for a ride.  According to the Gold Wing owners manual, the recommended cold pressure for the tires is 36PSI(front) & 41PSI(rear).  Also, whenever you check tire pressure, you should always

1) Look for bumps or bulges in the side of the tire or in the tread lines
2) Cuts, slits or cracks in the tires
3) Nails or other foreign objects imbedded in the wall of the tires
4) Excessive tread wear

What's the solution if you do not always have the time to check your tire pressure?

Honda Gold Wing GL1800 Brake Recall

Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall alert for approximately 126,000 Goldwing motorcycles. The company has identified an issue with the motorbikes' secondary brake master cylinders that may cause the rear brakes to drag.  We have inspected just under 100 units so far since the recall was announced and have found only 3 units in need of repair.  If you have questions about the recall, please join the blog to find out more information.  The recall effects all model years 2001-2012 of the GL1800(All types).  For the 2012 model year, only the following VIN# ranges are affected:

Color-matched, Two tone or Stock 2012 Goldwing?
